We’re back with our ‘My Austin’ series where we get to know the faces behind the local businesses that have come highly recommended in the community. In fact, it’s how each business we feature earns their “Scouted” Spot.

This month, we’re chatting with Michael McCollum Adams about TAG Strategies, the firm she runs alongside husband, Jon Adams as well as what life in Austin looks like these days…

GET TO KNOW MICHAEL

TSG: What is TAG Strategies?

MMA: TAG Strategies is a full-service marketing and creative agency built for the digital world. From engaging content to influential campaigns, our work sways public opinion and builds winning coalitions.

TSG: Tell us about the reason for the firm’s inception

MMA: TAG was built at our dining room table about 3 months into Covid 2020! My husband and I saw a lane where our worlds could merge and support each other! 4 years later here we are and we are still having fun with so many exciting projects ahead of us!

TSG: Where did the name ‘TAG’ come from?

MMA: The Adams Group.

TSG: TAG’s expansion to Austin has led to the company expanding beyond politics. What does this look like and who can you serve here?

MMA: This is actually so exciting because my husband and I have both started exploring other businesses we can start or get involved with and it’s so nice to have our talented TAG Team to support us along the way!

TSG: What’s it like to work with your spouse?

MMA: It is not for everyone but it works for us. Jon is my best friend and it gives you a complete sense of understanding in your relationship when they know exactly what your priorities are each day.

TSG: On that note, how do you balance being a mom of 4 and this role? Any tips for working moms?

MMA: Being a working mom requires lots of organization. I’ve found that prepping as much as I possibly can the night before helps our days run smoothly. Some days are harder than others, but it’s all about finding which system works best for your family.

TSG: What’s your favorite Austin event?

MMA: Dancing with the Stars benefitting the Center for Child Protection or when my brother, Parker McCollum, plays the Moody Center.

TSG: What’s your favorite Austin neighborhood?

MMA: Oh gosh! We are such homebodies and love to stay in Westlake Hills.

TSG: Where’s your go-to place for a drink?

MMA: The Wayback Cafe – Currently, they have the cutest summer menu of fun cocktails.

TSG: What’s your go-to coffee shop?

MMA: Swedish Hill. Rumor is it’s coming to Westlake Hills.

TSG: What’s your go-to for a special night out?

MMA: Uchiko or Red Ash. We are also dying to try Casa Bianca.

TSG: Finish this sentence – ‘I officially felt like an Austinite when…’

MMA: I officially felt like an Austinite when I paid my first round of property taxes! No, I’m kidding! I officially felt like an Austinite when I went to pick up my kids from school and they knew the Texas pledge.

TSG: Favorite part about living in Austin?

MMA: Cannot stress this enough – The people in Austin are top notch! We have made lifelong friends almost immediately – Oh yes and the Mexican food is way better in Texas!

TSG: What’s it like to be an entrepreneur in Austin?

MMA: We have had a great time getting to know people around Austin! Probably the easiest city to grow a business in because the people are incredibly friendly and supportive. I find that everyone has unique jobs, businesses and ideas which makes it fun to collaborate!
