Society Fair's Whiskey And Wine Cocktail

As we brace for the first snowstorm of the season, we’re taking stock of the necessary supplies to have on hand. In addition to the basics, there are certain creature comforts that can transform a snowed-in day into something of a staycation. A delicious, cold weather drink is one such element, and when it comes to warming beverages, Society Fair’s Whiskey and Wine Cocktail is tough to beat.

A staple at the Alexandria-based boutique epicurean destination, this cocktail is the ideal antidote for cold winter nights. A mixture of some of our favorite ingredients, it smells wonderfully wintry while you prepare it, and the taste is perfectly in sync with the season. Here’s how to make it at home: 

Whiskey and Wine Cocktail

2 oz. Sauternes Mixture (Recipe Below)
1 oz. 40 Creek Whiskey
1 oz. 4 Roses Bourbon
dash lemon bitters

Serve at room temperature in a rocks glass with an orange peel

 

SAUTERNES MIXTURE

1/2 bottle Sauternes (750ml)
1 orange peel (dried and thinly sliced)
1/2 cardamom pod
1 star anise
3 cloves
1/2 tsp. all spice
1 cinnamon stick
1/8 cup honey

• DIRECTIONS •
Add spices to a hot pan and gently toast them.
While toasting the spices, put wine in a pot over medium heat. Add honey and orange peels and stir.
Add in spices and let simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and strain.
