2024 Scouted Business List

We are pleased to announce the 2024 Scouted businesses, as seen in The Scout Guide New Orleans Volume 12. To us, a business is Scouted because it provides a unique, one-of-a-kind offering with an exceptional level of service and a dedicated owner. We all have options when it comes to choosing where we spend our dollars, and we can assure you that you will be glad you supported these fine New Orleanians. Read below for all the reasons why these businesses earned a spot in The Scout Guide Volume 12:

Abigail Reller is a New Orleans based artist who specializes in abstract art that is vibrant with colors. Recently, Abigail created The Grey Collaborative, which is an experience in which your children work with Abigail to create a rich and colorful base. Next, Abigail highlights the parts that your children were most intentional about to ensure that the piece is beautiful enough to hang in your home. We love this way of exposing young children to art while also creating a piece of art that you can have forever.

ACMS is a national, full-service construction management and consulting firm with offices in Louisiana, Texas, and North Carolina. ACMS specializes in the restoration of commercial properties damaged by insurance-related events such as hurricane, tornado, fire, flood, hail, or other disasters. ACMS holds a special place in our hearts as they have restored many buildings in the French Quarter, including Central Grocery which received significant damage due to Hurricane Ida in 2021. Central Grocery is a historic grocery store that is renowned for the muffuletta sandwich and the original French Quarter location is a cultural landmark in New Orleans.

A Gallery for Fine Photography highlights the original works of world-renowned photographers such as Ansel Adams, Edward Sheriff Curtis, W. Eugene Smith, Sebastião Salgado, Elliott Erwitt, Henri Cartier-Bresson…and of course, owner, Joshua Pailet. A Gallery opened its doors in 1973 and has since established itself as one of the most respected photography galleries in America, making it a compelling destination for both photographers and art enthusiasts, and we are thrilled to feature them as a Scouted selection this year.

Art & Eyes is for people who love eyewear. They have the unique, custom, statement, and fabulous eye glasses and sunglasses you’ve been looking for, curated by owners Starr Hagenbring and Paul Wilcox. If you wear glasses, this shop should be at the very top of your “must visit” list.

There is so much to love about Backatown, from the owners, Jessica and Alonzo Knox; to the food and coffee; to their mission. Backatown was created so that people could have an authentic New Orleans gathering space that helps cultivate our neighborhoods through the fostering of ideas and conversations. Backatown is also a major contribution to the revitalization of Basin Street as a tourist destination.

Reach out to Be On The Coast if you are interested in buying a home on Florida’s Emerald Coast. Owner Brian LocCicero is a Louisiana native turned seasoned local on the Florida Emerald Coast. Brian brings a wealth of knowledge to assist clients in discovering their ideal homes or vacation properties. Don’t miss their suzanis and jewelry selection!

Her way of combining antiques with other elements creates spaces that are unique, modern, and relevant for years to come.

A close source alerted us to Ford Stevens’ life-changing personal training, and once we spoke with him, we knew Body By Ford belonged on our Scouted list. Ford’s indoor/outdoor studio in Mid-City offers private and semi-private training, nutrition counseling, and boxing training, and they specialize in weight loss, muscle building, and body transformation.

Forget the idea of an art gallery as an intimidating place: Claire Elizabeth Gallery encourages art enthusiasts of all levels to enjoy their excellent collection of original and limited edition works from living artists in the South. Owner Claire Elizabeth Thriffiley only carries art that she would personally hang in her own home or office, and she and her team will gladly assist you in finding pieces that you like and fit your taste, style, and budget. We particularly admire Claire’s nonprofit work in the arts: Her organization, Amy’s Art Cart at Children’s Hospital, has raised over $100,000 in monetary and in-kind donations, a perfect example of how local business owners serve our community in so many ways.

Cole Pratt Gallery is a contemporary fine art gallery specializing in the works of Southern artists. Erika Olinger is the owner and longtime director of this gallery, and we particularly love their monthly exhibitions highlighting a featured artist.

In a city like New Orleans where coffee is so important, CR Coffee owner Kevin Pedeaux made it his mission to keep his coffee simple and delicious. He uses antique coffee roasters and traditional Southern roasting techniques, and the result is the best cup of coffee in town. You can find CR Coffee in four locations throughout the city: Magazine Street, St. Roch Market, Airport and Metairie.

They are the foremost facial plastic surgeons in the region because they provide natural, refreshed-looking results. Their beautiful office in a St. Charles Avenue mansion offers gracious overnight accommodations, ensuring a seamless and comfortable recovery.

Hilltop Shoppe is our favorite place to shop for happys and gifts! It is stocked with delightful accessories, serverware, linens, glassware and more. We always turn to Hilltop Shoppe when we are looking for fun gifts, so naturally it is Scouted for its third year. While you’re there, make sure to say hello to Hilltop Shoppe’s friendly ambassador, Franklin the Basset Hound.

A relatively new business to Magazine Street, Hola Guava brings handmade and handwoven bags and hats, and statement jewelry pieces. Owner, Lauren Lipscomb Caro, sources pieces from Colombia and other South American countries to bring to New Orleans. The handwoven bags are a fan favorite, and we think it’s the perfect festival bag!

We absolutely adore the Jade team. They are so helpful and always make your shopping experience fun and easy. Located in Old Metairie, we look to Jade for gifts, serverware, glassware, and interior accents. They offer excellent interior design services, and the store’s beautiful merchandise is a reflection of owner Jennifer Rabalais’ fabulous taste. We are excited to help Tina Lagasse celebrate 10 years as the lead designer of Jade.

It is amazing that we can find name-brand designers such as Prada, Gucci, and Saint Laurent at a local store, and this is definitely where we shop when we are looking for something special.

Justine is Mia and Justin Devillier’s second restaurant, and it is consistently a top favorite for visitors and locals looking for Parisian-inspired food and an opulent ambiance. The food is as delicious as you’d expect from James Beard Award winner Justin Devillier, and just one look at the decor and you’ll know you’re in for an unforgettable meal.

Just one look at this artist’s paintings and you’ll understand why he is Scouted again this year. Kevin Gillentine creates large-scale ethereal landscapes and abstracts, and his work can be found in homes and businesses around the world. We love this New Orleans artist who draws his inspiration from the landscape around him during his childhood in Northern Mississippi.

It should be on every visitor’s list to enjoy as a more neighborhood approach to dining in New Orleans. It is owned by husband and wife team Justin and Mia Devillier, and Justin’s work in LPG’s kitchen earned him the James Beard Award for Best Chef: South. It’s a great place to go when shopping locally on Magazine Street. Must order: Blue Crab Beignets. This beloved local institution is celebrating 20 years of business in 2024.

Larkin’s Event Tents offers top of the line tents and tenting accessories, making sure that your event is exceptional. Bookmark this business for your next party.

You’re already on a first-name basis with the restaurants in Latter Hospitality’s brand’s stable: Tujague’s, Birdy’s, and The Bower. Owner Mark Latter knows how to make a restaurant sing, and each of these dining spots has something unique and memorable to offer. Tujague’s in the French Quarter is living history as New Orleans’ second-oldest restaurant, and its menu pays homage to Old New Orleans. Birdy’s is a brunch specialist, offering the perfect spot for a bachelorette party or meeting up with friends (come prepared for their highly Instagrammable fare and setting). The Bower is a great date spot, whether it’s your first date or your 50th, and it offers an excellent lineup of cocktails (we recommend the margarita) in addition to first-rate small and large plates. Plus, their partnership with Sugar Roots Farm means your meal will both taste good and do good.

Mignon New Orleans

This adorable children’s boutique is easy to love, and we are thrilled to have Mignon on our Scouted list this year. Owner Stephanie Deshautreaux started working at Mignon when she was in high school, so it was a natural transition to buy the business three years ago when the opportunity arose. Mosquito Authority New Orleans

New Orleanians know that summertime in the city equals mosquitos, which can be annoying during pool days, crawfish boils, and days spent enjoying your backyard. This is why we knew that Mosquito Authority had to be scouted for Volume 12. Mosquito Authority, owned by Catherine and Peter Freeman, is a professional pest control service dedicated to providing effective mosquito prevention solutions, ensuring outdoor spaces remain comfortable and bug-free.

Neal Auction

Neal Auction is a New Orleans icon as the oldest auction house that specializes in fine art, furniture, sculpture, and jewelry. They continue to set record prices at their auctions, and their staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We especially love that they make the auction process less intimidating, and their new app makes participating in the process easy (though there is nothing quite like scouting an auction preview in person – make a plan to go at least once this year!). 2024 is an exciting year for Neal Auction as they are celebrating 40 years.

New Orleans Map

New Orleans & Co. is our city’s tourism office, and we are excited to partner with this organization who shares so many of the same core values, including being committed to the success of our small business owners and wanting to share our love for New Orleans with the wider world.
