7 Things Our Wilmington Editor Is Loving Right Now

CO Bubble Sleeve Midi Dress available from The Julia in Wilmington, North Carolina.

We recently caught up with The Scout Guide Wilmington editor Jen Stolp to find out what she’s really into these days. Here, she shares her obsessions, from a coveted midi-dress and amazing candle to the shows she can’t stop streaming.

1. WHAT I’M COVETING

CO Bubble Sleeve Midi Dress
“I’ve had my eye on this midi dress to add to my fall/winter wardrobe. The Julia is my favorite local boutique for fashion lines you won’t find anywhere else. Every time I wear something I bought there I get so many compliments. I love that I can style this dress a number of ways with sandals, slides, or sneakers. When the temperature drops, I’ll throw a jacket over it and still look put together.”

2. WHAT I’M WATCHING

The Great British Baking Show and The Americans
“I’m a huge fan of GBBO. They just started a new season that is now streaming on Netflix. My wild Friday night plans always include a glass of wine and a new episode of GBBO. I never thought I’d get so excited for ‘Bread Week,’ but here I am. The other show I’m obsessed with is The Americans on Amazon Prime. I went down an internet rabbit hole reading about the Soviet sleeper agent program depicted in the show. It’s fascinating.”

3. WHAT I’M DOING

Dogs on the Beach
“October 1st is my favorite day of the year in Wilmington because it means dogs are allowed back on Wrightsville Beach. Fall is “local summer” in Wilmington because the summer crowds depart and the weather is still warm. My mini dachshund Pepper and I walk the beach every weekend this time of year and it’s so fun to run into friends and neighbors who also love year-round beach living.”

4. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO

How I Built This Podcast
“I’m a big fan of listening to podcasts when I’m out walking my dog or driving in the car. One of my long-time favorites that’s taken on a lot more relevance lately is How I Built This. Hearing the backstories of the entrepreneurs who’ve built some of the most successful companies in the world resonates with me as a small business owner. They recently released a series on resiliency with business leaders that is so timely for the 2020 pandemic.”

5. WHAT I’M WEARING

Queenie Necklace available from Gypsy & The Hunt.

Queenie Necklace
“These days, I am still doing a lot of virtual meetings for the upcoming launch of The Scout Guide Wilmington Volume 4, and I like wearing pendant necklaces to add a little pop from the waist up. I love this one from Gypsy & the Hunt. It’s the perfect size, looks great with t-shirts and blouses, and layers with other necklaces depending on how I’m feeling that day.”

6. WHAT I’M DECORATING WITH

Woven Baskets
“I have woven baskets in every room of my house. I think they’re the chicest way to store blankets in the living room, dog toys, workout equipment, and my needlepoint projectsThese baskets from Big Sky Design’s online shop come in a variety of sizes and they fit with the coastal decor that is so popular in Wilmington.”

7. WHAT I’M GIFTING

Nest 3 Wick Holiday Candle available from Nest Fine Gifts.

Nest 3 Wick Holiday Candle
“I’m a huge fan of Nest candles, and their holiday scent is my absolute favorite. I’ve been giving it as a hostess gift for years now and everyone raves about it.  Even though Christmas is a couple of months away, I broke my candle out early because it’s 2020 and anything goes this year, right? This candle will pair perfectly when Hallmark Channel Christmas movies start airing on TV.  I’m especially looking forward to watching U.S.S. Christmas, which was filmed locally in Wilmington, when it premieres in late November.”
