7 Things Our Northwest Arkansas Editor Is Loving Right Now

Photography by Meredith Mashburn.

As advocates for small businesses, The Scout Guide editors are continually scouting their communities for local finds to share and celebrate. With their fingers on the pulse, they are also excellent sources of unique recommendations. Recently, we caught up with The Scout Guide Northwest Arkansas editor Jennifer Esty to find out what she’s really excited about these days. Here, she shares her current obsessions, from the salt cellar revolutionizing how she cooks to her go-to playlist to her favorite fall spirit.

1. WHAT I’M USING

One-Handed Salt Cellars from Rachel McClintock Fine Woodworking Shoppe. // “These are absolutely stunning, as is everything else Rachel does. She made these in collaboration with Micah Thanhauser (in Martha’s Vineyard) with the chef in mind, as the lid slips to the side and moves back in place, truly allowing the use of only one hand.”

2. WHERE I’M EXPLORING

The Razorback Greenway. // “This is a 37-mile greenway that stretches up and down the north to south ends of Northwest Arkansas. It’s a primarily off-road, shared-use trail system connecting several popular local destinations. One of the stops is Airship Coffee at Coler Mountain Bike Preserve South Gateway. You have to walk or bike into this amazing spot!”

3. WHAT I’M GIFTING

Custom Cookies from Alexander Baking Co. // “This wonderful baking company makes so many amazing treats, but some of my favorites are their custom cookies. These football cookies are perfect to bring to a tailgate. And they made fantastic custom cookies for our Volume 5 launch.”

4. WHAT I’M DOING

ĒLXR Yoga. // “Bounce. Sweat. Flow. Grow. This studio is right up my alley! Hip-hop plus hot yoga? Count me in. I have a bit of a personal goal (that I’ve admittedly been avoiding) of getting my core strength strong enough to be able to do some of the more advanced yoga poses. Core strength is so important in so many layers of our health, but it’s also a healthy mental journey. Looks like I just held myself accountable.”

5. WHAT I’M COVETING

American Estates Pedestal Dining Table. // “I love everything American Estates creates. They’re a wonderful company based right here in Downtown Rogers. I’m swooning over their contemporary table. I love the warmth that wood finish imparts and a round table is so perfect for lively dinner conversations.”

6. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO

Band of Horses Radio on Spotify. // “I miss concerts so much and one of the last concerts I attended before the pandemic was Band of Horses. I love that we are seeing more and more music events and festivals open and can’t wait to get back into a normal concert routine at my favorite local concert venue, George’s Majestic Lounge.”

7. WHAT I’M DRINKING

Artanical Gin from Fox Trail Distillery. // “One Northwest Arkansas spot to visit to wind down (or celebrate!) is Fox Trail Distillery. Our friends at Fox Trail produce their own spirits and craft their own seasonal menus that never disappoint. One of my favorites is the Artanical Gin, which is so smooth and clean you can just sip it. If you’re in the area, you can pick a bottle up at the distillery (along with some of their locally produced spirits), including their newest, Wild Parallel Bourbon.”
