As advocates for small businesses, The Scout Guide editors are continually scouting their communities for local finds to share and celebrate. With their fingers on the pulse, they are also excellent sources for unique recommendations. Recently, we caught up with The Scout Guide New Orleans editor Taylor Morgan to find out what she’s really excited about these days. Here, she shares her current obsessions, from her holiday decorating essential to the art she wants to adorn her walls.
1. WHAT I’M DECORATING WITH
B. Viz Design Fortuny Stockings // “These mini stockings are multipurpose. They’re equally beautiful adorning garland, decking the tree, or gracing a place setting. And while you’re at it, add a famed B. Viz Design pillow to your cart. They’re the perfect statement piece for any room.”
2. WHAT I’M READING
Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance // “I think it’s pretty fascinating that J.D. Vance, the author of Hillbilly Elegy, was just elected to the United States Senate. His book came out to much acclaim in 2018 and has been made into a Netlifx movie, and I’m finally getting around to reading it.”
3. WHAT I’M WEARING
An Estate Ring from Friend & Company // “To celebrate 10 years of owning The Scout Guide New Orleans, I gifted myself a beautiful estate ring from Friend & Company. I knew this was the one at the photoshoot because it stopped me dead in my tracks, had nine stones to represent the preceding years of business, and it was in my birthstone. You can shop online for your one-of-a kind find, but the best things often never hit the website. So if you’re looking to wow a loved one (or yourself!) call Ken Friend and ask him to put you on his list for when he might find something that would speak to/have meaning to you.”
4. WHAT I’M EATING
The Only Hors d’Oeuvre Recipe You’ll Need // “I have my seasonal go-to recipes and this goat cheese appetizer is perfect for holiday entertaining. It’s a breeze to put together and always a crowd pleaser.”
5. WHAT I’M GIFTING
TASC Bamboo Silk Sleep Shirt and Pants // “These pajamas are the most comfortable (and sustainable) bamboo silk attire to come home to after a long day. Anyone on your list would love them—and it’s a good idea to buy a set for yourself!”
6. WHAT I’M DOING
Celebrating 10 Years of TSG New Orleans // “I’m compiling 10 years of TSG memorabilia into a beautiful monogrammed graphic image scrapbook. It’s a great way to clear my mind and reflect upon many accomplishments. I’m seeking inspiration for beautiful scrapbooks and layout ideas, if you know a person or small business who compiles or designs beautiful ones, please reach out to me at email@example.com.”
7. WHAT I’M COVETING
A Kevin Gillentine Painting // “Gillentine’s tranquil oil landscape paintings are sought after by collectors, interior decorators, and celebrities across the country and I’ve been a longtime fan. I’d love to add one of his works to my personal collection.”
