We recently checked in with The Scout Guide Huntsville editor Dawn Pumpelly to find out what she’s really into these days. Here, she shares her current loves, from a go-to blouse and favorite journaling method to a treasured Halloween tradition she’s indulging in.

1. WHERE I’M SHOPPING

Fall Farmers’ Markets
“Fall is the time to live in North Alabama, as it’s typically sunny with highs in the low 70s. What better weather is there to explore local farmers’ markets, especially with pumpkins, mums, and all of the other seasonal faves? Added perk: Huntsville’s vibrant and growing farmers’ market scene can be explored any day of the week where you can connect with local growers and makers.”

2. WHAT I’M WEARING

Washable Italian Silk Tunics and Blouses available from Personal Couture in Huntsville, Alabama.

Washable Italian Silk Tunics and Blouses
“I have four of these tops from Personal Couture, a lovely boutique here in Huntsville, in different styles and colors. They are comfortable, easy to care for, and can be dressed down with jeans or up to create a complete look. I love that they’re handmade in Italy and organically dyed.”

3. WHAT I’M EATING

Harry Potter Day at Hamley Bake Shoppe
“From bakery-made butterbeer to the special pre-order treat box, I love everything that comes from the creative mind of Stephanie Hamley in honor of Harry Potter. Stephanie has showcased her delicious talents by spoiling us with custom-made Scout cookies in the past, but how could you not love when someone’s personal passion comes pouring through their artistry like the goodies on Harry Potter Day?”

4. WHAT I’M DOING

An artist in action at Studio 127 in Huntsville, Alabama.

Art Journaling with Monica Yother of Studio 127
“I’ve been looking for meaningful ways to fill my time at home as so many people have in 2020. I’ve found that art journaling brings a connection to the soul that a lot of us are looking for. It’s a great way to nurture and grow our own creativity. Monica recently added online classes that make this cathartic, creative journaling method accessible to everyone.”

5. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO

You’re Wrong About Podcast
I love that this podcast sets the story straight on things you might think you know but that you’re wrong about from Tonya Harding to Multiple Personality Disorders and everything in between. Even better though is that Mike and Sarah, the journalist co-hosts of the podcast, are people with whom I want to be friends. They are incredibly woke, kind, and open-minded. The spirit of the show makes you feel good while correcting your understanding of the past. One of my favorite arcs is Jessica Simpson’s ‘Open Book’ series from earlier this summer.”

6. WHAT I’M DECORATING WITH

Wallpaper available for purchase at The Chameleon in Huntsville, Alabama.

Wallpaper
“My husband and I are currently renovating our master bath. I’ve coveted wallpaper everywhere and especially enjoy admiring the sample walls and perusing the books at the shop The Chameleon. I’ve also always loved interior designer Kelly Butler’s use of striking patterns and blues in her designs. I was inspired by a portfolio project that I’d seen her do in another home and used a similar wallpaper in our vanity area to bring richness, interest, and a pop of color to the space that is predominantly neutral. Both my builder and my husband admitted that they were dubious about my choice until they saw it installed. Score one for me!”

7. WHERE I’M EXERCISING

Pilates at Pilates Center of Huntsville
“I began practicing pilates last fall at Pilates Center of H
untsville. I’d just come home from a family trip to NYC during which I limped through the streets in tears due to a ruptured disk in my back. I couldn’t even imagine how I had gotten to this place where I couldn’t easily unload my own dishwasher. Fast-forward one year, I am carefully, methodically using pilates under the guidance of PCH to restore myself to live a full life without pain or limits.”
