4 Essential Outfits for Fall

You could easily argue that Terri Holley is the ideal shopping partner. The owner of Embellish, a carefully curated women’s boutique located inside Chattanooga’s stylish Warehouse Row, Holley doesn’t just have a keen eye; she also knows how to prioritize. “The older I get, the more comfortable I want to feel without ever sacrificing style,” she says. This desire to marry function and fashion informs her approach to helping others add to their wardrobes as well. “I think it’s important to understand a client’s lifestyle when helping them select new looks,” she explains. Recently, we asked Holley to curate four essential outfits for fall, each styled for a different occasion. Here, she breaks down the basics behind each look.

Look 1: Pretty and polished for day

Jacket and dickey by Veronica Beard, Jeans by 3 x 1, bag and boots by Loeffler Randall, scarf by Yarnz.

Curated for the woman who needs to be meeting-ready—as well as ladies who lunch—this outfit is a study in combining classic pieces that look current. “Blazers are definitely trending this season, and I adore this update on the blue blazer for both the unique fabric and the three-quarter ruched sleeve,” says Holley, who notes that the blazer is also a great length for women who prefer to cover their hips. “The cream color makes the jeans a great fall alternative for white jeans,” she adds.

Look 2: Saturday stroll-ready

Skirt by Ulla Johnson, Sweater by SEA, hat by Rag & Bone, boots by Loeffler Randall.

Perfect for a stroll in the park, picnic, or football game, this effortlessly stylish outfit is ready for anything the weekend holds. “Hats are huge this season, and everything is coming up cognac,” Holley says of the inspiration behind the ensemble. While putting it together, she pulled the cognac color out of the skirt while accessorizing, and added a little front tuck to show the waist detail. “The skirt could easily be dressed up with a silk blouse,” Holley notes.

Look 3: Boardroom chic

Jacket by Veronica Beard, blouse by Raquel Allegra, pants by Tibi, bag by Loeffler Randall, necklace by Heather Benjamin, pumps by Ron White.

“I hear from my clients every day that they are dressing more casually in the office, but still need to look professional,” says Holley, who paired various shades of grey with black in this professional yet fashion-forward look. “I especially like the raw hem on the silk blouse, which makes it just a little less serious. Both the jacket and blouse are great with jeans too,” she adds.

Look 4: Out on the town

Jacket by Veda, pants by Beatrice .b, sweater by Vince, boots by Coclico, earrings by Rachel Comey.

“I believe every woman should have at least one black leather jacket in her wardrobe, if not several. This one is definitely a keeper for so many reasons, as it easily transitions over a skirt or dress and jeans,” Holley says of the edgy jacket she selected to complete this evening-out look that mixes a variety of textures and incorporates the current “it” pattern, plaid.
