Outstanding Pastry Chef

With stunning Southwestern cuisine served in a laid back atmosphere, it’s no wonder Valentine has been a James Beard Award semifinalist for the past three years running. Created by Blaise Farber and Chad Price, this popular restaurant-cafe-bar-bakery has become one of the top foodie destinations in the Valley. We’re told brunch shouldn’t be missed, thanks in large part to their all-star pastry chef, Crystal Kass.

Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program

Almost all the ingredients on The Hope Farm’s menus have been sourced directly from their own fields. While the food alone is worth the journey to this charming spot on the Alabama coast, the award-winning beverage program is also a star in its own right. From the expertly curated wine list to cocktails featuring the farm’s own herbs and fruits, the bar may be the best seat in the house.

In cooperation with the James Beard Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to celebrate, support, and elevate the people behind America’s food culture, restaurateur Joe Farrell founded the James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour in 2003. The aim of the dinners was to bring the historic New York-based James Beard House experience to cities across the country while raising money for the foundation. Ultimately, the more than 400 Celebrity Chef dinners Farrell hosted raised over $2 million for the foundation over the next 15 years.

Best Chef South

Chef Matthew Cooper’s tireless efforts to source the finest quality ingredients, while allowing them to shine in every delectable bite, has earned him the James Beard Award nomination for Best Chef South. The warm and welcoming atmosphere created by the talent around him is only enhanced by the open concept kitchen, which allows guests to enjoy the magic that happens even before the plate hits the table.
