What We're Making: She + Him Cold Brew Cocktail

With all due respect to eggnog, a creamy, coffee-tinged cocktail can really hit the spot on a winter evening. The Cold Brew Cocktail devised by Austin-based She + Him Bartending puts a caffeine-inspired spin on the classic White Russian, creating a potent beverage that’s just as appropriate for brunch as an after-dinner treat. Served recently at an afternoon soiree co-hosted by The Scout Guide Austin Editor Leigh Ann Kalman, the Cold Brew proved to be a popular pick among the women gathered to relax and rejuvenate during the hectic holiday season. Here’s how to make it at home:

Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces vodka
1 ounce coffee liqueur
1/2 ounce cream (or more, to taste)
Coffee beans for garnish

Instructions:
Fill a highball glass [Editor’s note: we went with a copper mug to add a festive flair] with ice. Pour vodka, coffee liqueur, and cream into the glass. Using a bar spoon, stir for 20 seconds. Garnish with coffee beans and enjoy!

There was some debate in the TSG Test Kitchen about the perfect coffee liqueur-to-cream ratio (anywhere from 1/2 an ounce to 5 ounces of cream yielded delicious results), and one caffeine fan even went so far as to add a shot of cold brew coffee to her cup. One of the perks of the cocktail is that, in addition to being pretty, it’s easy to play around with, so you’re guaranteed to be satisfied with the finished product. Cheers!
