Three Summer-ready Smoothies

Since we’ll be slipping into our bathing suits momentarily, we figured now was an excellent time to get a little more health-focused. In addition to putting in some extra effort during workouts, we’re committing to putting more thought into what we put into our bodies. Eager to add some healthy beverages to our repertoire, we asked the experts at PUSH Fitness in Denver, Colorado, who offer nutritional programming in addition to a variety of training programs, to share a few recipes for nourishing formulas that’ll have us feeling great. Here’s what well be sipping all summer long:

Replenishment Formula

1 cup coconut water
1 tsp. spirulina
1 cup mango
1 tsp. lime juice
Ice to desired thickness

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Add ice until desired consistency. Note: frozen mango can be substituted for fresh.

The replenishment formula is great for a hot summer day. The ingredients in coconut water are amazing at hydrating the human body as its high in electrolytes; spirulina is a blue-green algae high in protein, antioxidants, and B vitamins; and mango alkalizes the body, improving function.

Happiness Formula

1 cup coconut water
Handful spinach
1/2 banana
1/2 cup strawberries
1/2 cup blueberries
Ice to desired thickness

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Add ice until desired consistency. Note: frozen banana, strawberries, and blueberries can be substituted for fresh.

The happiness formula has a nostalgic connection for people. Summer brings up memories of fresh berries, and coconut water reminds us of beachside relaxing. The combo in this smoothie creates an antioxidant mega dose in the most simple way.

Energy Formula

1 cup coconut milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1tbsp. coconut flakes
1/4 cup raw almonds
1/2 banana
1 cup strawberries
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Ice to desired thickness

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Add ice until you have the desired consistency. Optional: Top smoothie with 1 tsp. of hemp seeds for an added crunch. Note: frozen banana and strawberries can be substituted for fresh.

This would be great for a filling yet easy breakfast or after a killer workout. The energy formula is the perfect combination of protein, clean carbohydrates, and fat to keep you full and revved up for hours. The coconut flakes have MCT’s (medium chain fatty acids), which is a fat that is used immediately for energy.
