The Scouted Calendar / January 2017

It’s time to crack open those brand new 2017 calendars, because the first month of the new year has plenty of events and activities to add to your agenda. From art exhibitions to wine festivals to fashion shows, here’s what we’re looking forward to in some of our Scouted cities in January:

Charlotte, North Carolina

The Mint Museum Uptown pairs specialty cocktails with special exhibitions January 18th for “Creatively Crafted, Artfully Distilled.” Local spirit-maker Doc Porter’s vodka, gin, and bourbon will be available for tasting, 7 String Theory will be performing, and the museum’s dynamic shows featuring works by women, Fired Up: Women in Glass and Women of Abstract Expressionism, will be on view. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Charlotte here.}

Greenwich, Connecticut

An exhibition featuring works by French Impressionist Alfred Sisley opens on January 21st at the Bruce Museum. Approximately fifty works by the artist, described as the “purest of all the major Impressionists,” will be on view through May 21st, and the Bruce Museum will be the only venue in the United States to host the exhibition. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Greenwich & Fairchester here.}

Hilton Head Island & Bluffton, South Carolina

Hosted by the Greater Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, the Bluffton Ball, a celebration of Bluffton business owners, takes place January 28. Miami, Florida

The fashionable set won’t want to miss the 6th annual Splendor in the Garden luncheon and fashion show January 11 at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. Neiman Marcus VP and Fashion Director Ken Downing will be back for the event, which benefits Fairchild’s conservation, children’s education, science, and horticulture programs. At the end of the month, join (or cheer on) the 25,000 runners participating in the 15th annual Miami Marathon, which winds its way throughout downtown and Miami Beach neighborhoods on January 29th. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Miami here.}

Naples, Florida

A truly memorable event that benefits a wonderful cause, the Naples Winter Wine Festival takes place January 27th through 29th. Celebrity chefs, premier vintners, and top sommeliers come together to deliver unforgettable culinary experiences at private homes throughout the area, and enticing auction lots offer bidders the opportunity to win a trip to exclusive and luxurious destinations. The best part? Proceeds from the Festival go toward the Naples Children & Education Foundation. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Naples here.}

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

On January 12, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art is hosting “A Night of Hygge,” during which attendees are invited to embrace the Danish concept of cozying up with friends (while also enjoying the galleries). Hot chocolate, “subversive cross stitch,” live music, and more activities make this Art After 5 event an excellent way to spend a winter evening. {Find local recommendations for what to do and see in Oklahoma City here.}
