About TSG Sarasota Editor Susan Hess Doane:
Susan Doane was born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Horticulture and worked in the interior plant design business in Maryland and North Carolina before settling in Florida.
Susan was first introduced to The Scout Guide when visiting Dallas a few years ago. She loved the way it looked, and thought Sarasota would be a perfect fit for the chic publication. Becoming a TSG Editor offered her an exciting new career, and the timing was perfect, as her youngest was off to college and she was ready to start her next chapter.
Susan loves getting out in the community and meeting new people, and helping to find and promote the best of local in Sarasota. She also enjoys the creative side of TSG, including styling photoshoots and putting together a beautiful publication.
Susan has lived in Sarasota for 26 years, where she and her husband, Dennis, a VP of business development at Downing Health Technologies, have raised their three boys. The only boy living at home with them now is Cooper, their Vizsla.
Susan’s Three Favorite Reasons to Visit Sarasota:
- Beautiful beaches.“The sand and the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico are spectacular, not to mention our breathtaking sunsets.”
- The Cultural Coast. “Sarasota is known as Florida’s Cultural Coast. We offer the The Sarasota Ballet, Opera, and Orchestra. We’re also home to The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Ca d’Zan (the Ringling Mansion) and the Asolo Repertory Theater. We have award-winning Botanical Gardens and the world-renowned Sarasota school of architecture (also known as Sarasota Modern) to enjoy.”
- Fishing and boating. “Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico have some of the best fishing and boating on the west coast of Florida.”
