Lauren Lail has been outfitting stylish Charlestonians in vintage duds for years with Library: Archives of Fashion, her procured vintage anthology. Now she is taking the line to the next level by adding her own designs with the collection, Library by Lauren Lail. There are 8 original pieces from separates to dresses, all in a color palate inspired by a painting from the talented Way Way Allen of Blue Chickadee (seen in the background of the invitation below).
The line launches next Tuesday from 5:30-8:30pm at Novel., the designer showroom Lauren shares with Blue Chickadee, Balboa and Jane Pope Jewelry and Bon Vivant. Below, we sit down with the designer to discuss the new collection.
1. It seems a natural progression for you take the designing reigns, is this where you’ve always seen Library going?
Designing Library by Lauren Lail has really been an organic evolution of the vintage collection, which is still the driving inspiration and creative foundation for the entire brand.
2. Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes first comes from distinctive pieces that have come and gone through the Library Vintage Collection. And then it’s the everywhere and everyday…in my surroundings, travel and of course, there’s inspiration from this stylish city we live in!
3. You’re an expert when it comes to vintage style, how does this play into your designs?
It’s huge, the collection is rooted in vintage silhouettes!
4. What can we expect from this collection?
You can expect breezy and relaxed feeling garments that capture the vintage-made modern sensibility. A classically feminine feel in everyday essentials that you can wear to the beach or to a garden party and a watercolor palette that helps shape the signature style of the collection.
We hope to see you at Novel. and please tell ‘em Scout sent ya,
