Going Grey

Always sophisticated and far from gloomy, grey is a perennial favorite of ours. Able to be paired with anything, the color is a versatile chameleon we can’t imagine tiring of, whether when used in our rooms or incorporated into our wardrobes. In fashion, a stylish grey sweater shares must-have status on par with the perfect white shirt, and as the above room by Richmond-based designer Janie Molster shows, the color’s ability to add warmth and sophistication to a room make it a decidedly smart choice for any space.

A cozy knit sweater in a light grey hue is an absolute autumn go-to. Paired with their relaxed fit bermuda pants, Mina + Olya’s grey sweater (left) and ALC’s (Roan in Richmond carries the line) dove grey sweater, are the definition of cozy chic.

tsg-palegrey-tileGrey and white tile in a geometric pattern looks clean, modern, and right at home in the bright white master bathroom designed by San Francisco-based Macfee Design (top), while pale grey marble adds a cool, luxurious feel to a kitchen by Charlottesville-based architect Bethany Puopolo Architect and designer Jan Roden.  in a powder room by Chattanooga’s Graham Vannoy Construction, grey and white marble tile adds stunning detail and a sense of calm.

Sitting rooms by Charlotte’s Lucy and Company (top) and Napa’s Robinson Finishes (above) demonstrate how lovely grey mixed with gold can be. The variety of color, texture, and pattern in the Lucy and Company space seem somewhat subtle thanks to the neutral furniture and soothing shades of grey used throughout. In the Robinson Finishes room, the simple lines of the mustard bench and solid rug beautifully contrast the intricate wallpaper and detailed accent chair.

How amazing is Robinson Finishes‘s Chinoiserie wallpaper? We’re already envisioning it in the dining room.

In addition to its subtle charms, grey can be statement-making. Artist Bryant Austin’s photograph from the “Beautiful Whale” exhibit at Focus Gallery in Cohasset, Massachusetts, more than proves this point. The mixture of textures and patterns in the master bedroom by New Orleans’s Eclectic Home (above, left) exudes elegance with every element; Annapolis-based Victoria Larson‘s textiles (above, right) enliven any room.

We would could spend hours enjoying the view of the Bay among the shades of grey in this room by San Francisco’s Kendall Wilkinson design.

Studs and trim in a slightly darker hue make Citizens of Humanity’s sweatshirt, available from Angela in Silicon Valley, undeniably stylish. An antique Buddha pendant necklace by The Woods Fine Jewelry, available at Goldyn in Denver, is the perfect accessory for when you want to add edge to your grey ensemble.

Atlanta’s Westbrook Interiors punctuates grey with fresh green in a hallway (top) and dining room (above, left), both of which look oh so inviting. Farrow and Ball also paired grey with green in the above right scene; call Charlottesville’s Palette Paint, which carries the line, to inquire about the Shouchikubai wallpaper and Down Pipe grey door.

As pretty as the sea right after a storm: the recently released TSG Hilton Head Island, Beaufort & Bluffton.
