When we head to the Holy City in a couple of weeks for the Charleston Wine + Food festival, we won’t just be going for the delicious fare—we’ll be learning the secrets to stylish entertaining courtesy of one of the industry’s best: Tara Guérard. Known for her exquisite events and ability to turn a client’s dream into a reality, the Charleston-based Guérard has garnered national acclaim, landing on Vogue magazine’s list of “5 Star Wedding Planners You Need to Know About” thanks to her creativity and attention to detail.
On Friday, March 4, Guérard will share her expertise on entertaining, etiquette, and styling at an intimate luncheon held in the courtyard of Circa 1886 as part of Charleston Wine + Food’s lineup of events. Not surprisingly, tickets to the TSG-sponsored garden party, “Life of the Party: All Things Entertaining with Tara Guérard,” sold out quickly, but we’re giving away two tickets to a lucky reader (see below for contest details). In advance of what we know will be a lovely affair, we caught up with the busy founder and owner of Tara Guérard Soirée and Lettered Olive, Guérard’s custom letterpress printing company, for a quick Q&A.

7 Questions with Tara Guérard
Is there a trend in your industry that you think will become a classic?
Yes, the wedding planner will be something the bride and groom can’t live without!
Describe a typical day.
I wake up at 5:45 a.m. and run 5 miles. When I get back I feed and dress my 3 kids, then drop them off to 2 schools. After that I get dressed for work and head to the office, where I’ll have about 5 conference calls and 2 meetings, followed by lunch at my desk. I’ll brainstorm new ideas, go on a site visit, and handle a couple of press checks throughout the afternoon. I get home by 7, have story time with the kids, get through the dreaded witching hour, then have a drink, get ready for bed, fall sleep by 9:30…and do it all over again!
What will you do on your next day out of the office?
Produce an event we planned!
What’s on your nightstand?
Besides a clock, a lamp, and a photo of my children? Mentholatum ointment—I’m addicted.
What’s your go-to hostess gift?
Linen cocktail napkins, preferably from our own Lettered Olive.
What do you love most about living in Charleston?
Running the streets in the mornings when only a few regulars are up! And our beautiful gardens for outside dinner parties and weddings.
What’s your favorite place to unwind after pulling off a big event?
In a hot tub with the crew and a cold beer.
