Farewell, 2015

We were lucky to have had a fun and fruitful 2015. We celebrated the launch of our 100th volume, we saw how you local, we welcomed new editors to the TSG family, we published Guides to new cities (as well as new volumes to our previously Scouted locales!), we gathered another year’s worth of TSG Tips from our wonderful experts, and we were constantly inspired by the incredible artists and entrepreneurs throughout the TSG network.

The past few days have fittingly been filled with “best of” lists, so we decided to round up some of our favorite pieces from the past twelve months. From features on artisans and independent business owners to gorgeous interiors to once-in-a-lifetime auctions to insider’s travel guides, here are our highlights.

Finding Inspiring Interiors

tsg-black-accents-door-walton-walton-610x805We extolled the virtues of not-so-basic black.

We celebrated the elegance of equestrian-inspired spaces.

We demonstrated how pretty purple can be, as well as the power of a great rug.

Taking House Tours

Thanks to Leslie Hindman Auctioneers, we got to peek inside the Palm Beach home of Lars Bolander and see what was for sale from the interiors pioneer’s personal collection.

TSG co-founder Susie Matheson treated us to a tour of Beaulieu, the Newport, Rhode Island mansion lovingly restored by her husband’s grandmother where she vacations with her family every summer.

Getting Up Close & Personal

tsg-croghans-silver-trophy-tulips-610x615Rhett Outten of Croghan’s Jewel Box, the oldest family-owned jewelry store in Charleston, told us the history behind the 100-year-old shop.

Curtis Bird of Denver’s The Old Map Gallery told us what it was like to be a seeker, keeper, and seller of rare and antique maps.

Matt Jamie, founder of Bourbon Barrel Foods, explained how he went from pursuing a master’s in exercise physiology to handcrafting soy sauce in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

Exploring TSG Cities

tsg-how-i-local-heather-610x922We spent 24 hours with TSG Alexandria, Virginia, editor Alison Teer (top), TSG Chicago editor Meredith Wood-Prince (middle row, left), TSG Aspen editor Brooke Casillas (middle, right), and TSG Charlottesville editor Heather Sieg (above). We also received travel tips for an ideal weekend in Washington, D.C. from editor Shelby Samperton, recommendations for where to go in Philadelphia & The Main Line from Jackie Stephans and Avery McMahon of home furnishings boutique The Velvet Shoestring, and an insider’s guide to Greenville, South Carolina, courtesy of TSG Greenville editor Paula Rallis (not pictured).

Seeing How You Local

A roundup of 2015 TSG HQ highlights wouldn’t be complete without you, our amazing readers, followers, and fellow fans of all things local, inspiring, and authentic. Our #HowILocal Instagram contest exceeded our wildest expectations as you showed us the wonderful and creative ways you enjoy your hometowns and everything that makes them unique and special.

Thank you for your support, thank you for reading, and thank you for keeping us inspired. Happy New Year!
