4 Essentials to Breezy Summer Dressing

When you work in an office setting, there’s a fine line between embracing summer casual and still looking professional. That’s why we tapped the style pros at Tuckernuck, a retail destination in Georgetown, for summer dressing advice. Here, public relations and special events manager Shallon Hunter shares the essential pieces for your summer wardrobe and style tips that will keep you looking chic and on-trend for the steamy days and nights ahead.

Infuse your summer classics with on-trend pieces. You don’t have to buy an entire new wardrobe to achieve an of-the-moment look this summer. “White jeans are everywhere this season,” Hunter shares. “Add a Saint James top (an iconic France-based fashion brand, most famous for their sailor stripes) and you have the building blocks for a classic look.” She then advises picking up statement earrings (the bigger the better!), espadrilles, tortoise shades and a straw bag for a head-turning look any day of the week.

Try a wide leg pant. This pant style is having a fashion moment. “For work, I love pairing high-waisted, wide-leg pants with a crisp button-down shirt,” Hunter says. “For a polished, pulled together look, accessorize with shoes that are either a mid-heel slide or a pointy flat.” Hunter also advises that you go bold and pick up a pair of pants in any color.

Don’t forget to accessorise. Accessories make an outfit and these are often the items that get noticed. For Hunter, this season the essentials are the Tuckernuck Watermelon Clutch, a silk scarf, the Tuckernuck Raffia Earrings and the Castaner Navy Espadrilles.

Embrace the scarf as your go-to summer accessory. Working a scarf into your wardrobe can sometimes feel challenging, but it’s one of the best accessories out there. “Scarves are the perfect work piece, especially when the AC is blasting in the summer,” Hunter advises. “You can dress up a Saint James and white jeans by draping a silk scarf around your shoulders or tying it around your neck.” Transition into evening by pairing a silk scarf with an easy day dress for an instantly elevated look. Swap out your work bag for a clutch, add some statement earring and you are ready for rooftop drinks or a patio dinner.
