Elizabeth Locke…The Other Elizabeth

We were on location yesterday in Boyce, Virginia, where The Scout Guide Hunt Country was shooting one of its newest clients, Elizabeth Locke at her flagship store, The Other Elizabeth. We were fascinated to learn her tale that inspired the store’s name, affectionately called The Contessa’s Story, and to enter the fairytale world that captivated us.

A sampling of her famed jewels.

The ladies at The Other Elizabeth.

The store is called The Other Elizabeth, inspired by a (fictional but elaborate) tale. The story goes that Elizabeth had a long lost twin, also named Elizabeth, whose wanderings include Memphis, TN and Graceland while finally leaving her married to a Conte in Venice. When the twins finally found one another, twin Elizabeth was despondent and in desperate straits. Elizabeth Locke brought her sister back to curate the store, hence its name and its decor. Above, the other Elizabeth’s Venetian-inspired bedroom.

Italian architecture and furnishings to make the Contessa feel at home.

Note the Elvis paraphernalia through out the store (since the other Elizabeth once lived at Graceland).

Meet Fergie, the Scottie.

And Gracie, the Greyhound.

Our Scout Guide Hunt Country team.

Because of her sister’s erratic sleeping schedule, the store is open only on weekends.

People fly in from all over the country to spend a few hours shopping at The Other Elizabeth. Their first stop is the Locke Store (no relation) for a great lunch–the vegetable tart is to die for. Not to be missed in the area is Haute luxury fabrics… quite the find for great fabrics at wholesale prices in Marshall, VA. Two great destinations off the beaten path.

Don’t miss this enchanting destination. You’re in for a real treat.

So excited to see The Scout Guide Hunt Country (Virginia) make its debut this September. Thanks to everyone at Elizabeth Locke for giving us this behind the scenes look.

Reid’s Famous Tuna Melt

We love Reid’s! Several of our TSG headquarters team went down to Charlotte for the Scout is Out party and were treated to the best tuna melt ever (in our opinion) at Reid’s that day. We begged head chef Kyle Biddy to share his recipe with us and we are happy to report he obliged. Enjoy!

Dr. Anna Magee of Charlottesville Dermatology gives us her thoughts on skin protection from the hot summer sun:

At current rates, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in his or her lifetime. Regular sun protection is the number one way to decrease one’s risk for developing skin cancer and minimize premature aging of the skin. The following tips will help you stay safe while outdoors this summer.

Look for a broad spectrum sunscreen that has a Sun Protective Factor (SPF) of 30 or greater and be sure to reapply every 2-3 hours.

Elta MD 41 is a mineral based tinted sunscreen that is great for sensitive skin.

Elta MD 46 Clear is a light sunscreen that is oil free and helps to calm redness associated with acne and rosacea.

Elta MD 45 Aero is a spray on sunscreen that is great for children and adults alike.

Sunforgettable Mineral Sunscreen is a powder-based sunscreen that is water resistant and works well over makeup.

Wallaroo hats are all rated UPF 50+ and come in fashionable and fun styles for men, women and children.

Another favorite… Josie Maran sunscreen…Doesn’t leave the white tint on your face because it contains argan oil.

Thanks Dr. Magee and everyone at Charlottesville Dermatology!
